All the latest SYD Juniors news available here, updated whenever anything happens!
04/7/12 - Feast-tacular
SYD Juniors performed at the Shelford Feast last night to an amazing audience, and got a great reception. The set went down a storm, with highlights from the year along with some of our own favourites. Tonight is the Fun Run Presentation, one of our last events of the year before SYD 7s Annie, the BBQ, and STC's Kiss Me Kate. We look forwards to seeing the Juniors at all of those, as well as in September when rehearsals begin for a new show.
21/5/12 - Moving Forwards
Many thanks to one and all involved in our most recent production. Les Miserables has been the greatest success in SYD Juniors' history, with positive reviews and comments from parents, teachers, and members of the public flooding in for the last few days. A photo CD is available, with shots from the tech run and dress rehearsal of the show. If you are interested send us an email, and we will be happy to arrange a copy for you. We are selling them for £5 each. SYD Juniors will be back for the Shelford Feast, with rehearsals starting on the 13th June at 7.30pm.
17/5/12 - Opening Night
We opened last night to great success, with over half the audience on their feet come the walkdown! Despite a few technical issues including broken microphones, the cast carried on admirably, and pulled off the strongest performance to date. With high hopes for the remaining three performances, we look forwards to more of the same tonight. Extra seats have been put in, bringing us to fire capacity.
12/5/12 - Tech Run
Tomorrow we launch in to our Tech Run for the show, the first time our stage crew will be coming together and bringing in the lights, sound, scenery and props. While we've used bits before this is where it all happens at once. It's going to be a long day but we have high hopes that we can get through and be ready for the show. Last few tickets still available, email boxoffice@sawstonyouthdrama.com for more information.
23/4/12 - Burwell House
Last weekend we went on our annual Burwell House trip to knuckle down and get some serious work done. As a result of this we've cracked act one and refreshed our memories of some parts to act two. The show is really starting to come together, which is just as well considering opening night is just 3 weeks away! On tickets, a reminder that FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ARE BOTH SOLD OUT, but tickets are still available for Wednesday and Thursday. Scenery and costumes are starting to come together as well, so the full show will hopefully be ready a week before we open!
2/3/12 - Ticket Sales
Tickets have been on sale to the general public for 3 days and SATURDAY IS SOLD OUT already. Other tickets are selling well, and we will be keeping a live count of remaining tickets on the Juniors main page as well as the SYD home page.
22/2/12 - Look Down
With half-term and The Pajama Game out of the way, we can now get in to rehearsals. We start back tonight at 7.30pm in the Marven Centre, and don't forget we now have Sunday rehearsals as well - also in the Marven Centre from 2.15pm. For those who came along and saw our STC Les Mis workshop you will know how hard we worked and the standard we achieved - we have the same lofty goals for Juniors with even more time to work!
17/1/12 - Singing in Groups
Group A auditions start tonight at 7.15pm in the music department. Group B will follow tomorrow, and Group C will finish up initial auditions on Thursday night. Bring lyrics if you need them and be ready to sing!
10/1/12 - Auditions
We start back with auditions for Les Mis tonight at 7.15pm. Hopefully everyone will have had a great break and time to check out the auditions material online in the members section. We had intended on running through the audition pieces as well as some other songs, however the schedule is now subject to change due to our musical director having apendicitis! Becky will be back with us as soon as possible, however our STC musical director (2011-2012) Bobby has stepped in to play piano tonight instead. Best of luck to all auditioning!
15/12/11 - Winter Break
In line with the school winter holidays we have broken up for a couple of weeks, and subsequently there will be no SYD rehearsals until Wednseday 10th January, which will be the start of our auditions for Les Mis. Auditions material is now online in the members area of the website to help you get ready for January, if you need reminding of your login details please send us an email. Happy holidays to everyone, and we look forwards to seeing you after the break.
8/12/11 - Another Day, Another Destiny
SYD Juniors are proud to announce our 2012 production as "Les Miserables - School Edition" which will be performed 16th-19th May next year. Our final presentations went fantastically with our groups performing to an audience of nearly 120, and we even threw in a few surprises such as getting the group to improvise and perform all together. Audition material will be online very shortly for Les Mis, and those auditions will run through January, with the cast being announced on the 31st. Girls will be auditioning with Eponine's song "On My Own" and the boys will tackle Marius' "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables". In addition to this we will do acting workshops and run some lines to develop characters. Callbacks will happen towards the end of January where we will sing some different songs and really make decisions. For more information please don't hesitate to contact us.
15/11/11 - What a Gripping Moment
Three weeks left of SYD Juniors before we take our Winter break, and we will be spending them reviewing and going back over the songs and scenes we've set. All 3 groups have worked through both numbers quite a few times, and now we've just got 2 sessions left to fix things up perfectly before our presentation night on the 6th December. Our Choreographer Margaret has come to join us having recovered from her operation, and has cast her keen eye over the pieces thus far. With her insights added to the team we're bound to be set and have these pieces perfect by the night. It is also worth pointing out that on the 6th December we will be announcing our main musical production for May next year - watch this space!
18/10/11 - Down and Out Over Half Term
So far we have been singing and moving our way through our first song of two - Down and Out from "Bugsy Malone" and there's very good progress coming from all 3 groups. We've made the decision to set each group in a slightly different manner - one in a school, one a prison, and the last group in mcdonalds... However, next week is half term and so we will not be meeting until the 1st November - at which time we'll move on to the second song, Ascot Gavotte from "My Fair Lady".
04/10/11 - Autumn Term
This term we will be working on two musical numbers - learning the songs and harmonies, and setting a dramatic element to both songs instead of traditional choreography. In addition to this we will be covering stagecraft and technique to give a better overview and understanding on the theatrical world. On our final rehearsal before the winter break we will annonce our musical production for 2012 so watch this space for more information.
25/09/11 - First Meeting
Following the successes of We Will Rock You and the Shelford Feast earlier this year, we are relaunching SYD Juniors for the 2011/2012 session on Tuesday 27th September, at 7.30pm in the SVC Dining Hall. We look forwards to welcoming last years' SYD 7s, as well as those returning from Juniors. A 10 week project of workshops will run until the winter break, followed by work on our major musical - to be announced at a later date.
